Ng Kah Xuan, who is just a week old, is in hospital and fighting for her life.
The infant, suffering from serious congenital heart disease, had to be rushed from Ipoh to the Gleneagles Medical Centre (GMC) here on Wednesday to receive corrective heart surgery.
Accompanying Kah Xuan to Penang were her parents, Ng Chee Meng, 31, and Lee Yew Bing, 28, from their home in Ipoh.
GMC consultant paediatric cardiologist Dr Sim Joo Seng said Ng suffers from a large hole in the wall that separates the upper two chambers of her heart and another hole that separates the lower two chambers. Other complications have also set in.
On Wednesday, surgery was performed on Kah Xuan, but there is a need for a second operation today.
The total cost of her two operations is expected to be about RM50,000.
“We were shocked and sad when we found out that Kah Xuan is suffering from heart disease,” said Yew Bing, a housewife.
“We appeal to the public to help us as we cannot afford to pay for the surgery.”
Chee Meng, a freelance carpenter, said he does not have a steady income but when there are jobs, he earns between RM1,200 to RM1,500 a month.
Members of the public who wish to help the family, can send cheques payable to New Straits Times, with the name of Ng Kah Xuan written on the reverse side, and address it to: The Cashier, Finance Department/Charity Unit, New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd, Balai Berita, No. 31, Jalan Riong, 59100 Kuala Lumpur.

I'm OKAY with the cause, question I have is what if the drive does not raise sufficient funds then what? is 50K all it takes? what about subsequent expenses? Is Gleneagles the right hospital in that it is a private concern and would the 5K we have go a longer way to give this kid a chance elsewhere? Just lots of questions short of saying is this gonna help, really?

Good point raised, Wilson. I suppose every bit helps. Maybe this charitable frame of mind that The Boys are having needs to be harnessed in the form of a better structure (e.g. LSB76 Benevolent Society Inc.) to build up a sizeable trust fund before any charitable disbursements are made. Otherwise like you said, the "paltry" sum is "wasted" in a sense.
In short, our intentions are good but lets make it count when it matters.

Ha Ha ... typical of the country we live in... too much red tape. My prediction is that someone under18 will benefit from the fund when we past the commemorative 3rd anniversary ceremony of Harjit's death !!
Just leave dental work to the dentist, adjusting work for the adjusters, and donations to Father Patrick.
BTW my tomato sauce on the Badminton Masters is still so safe; don't hear the bottle cap come off yet har har har...
Aiyah...we are no Ananda Krishna's or Syed Mokhtar's donating millions to charity on annual basis.....there4 focus should be placed on ensuring amount, however "paltry" finds its intended use for good measure...thats all...hey, don't we have a committee to decide....in which case we should all just let them get on with the decision making....All good intentions however small are never "wasted"....
Hey...
Just ponder.... How would you feel if your are in the parent's shoes and some anonymous group comes up with this offer of assistance.
More importantly is how much is means to the recipient and not how much is given...
have a heart
Aiyoo .... just get on with it lah !
The rest of the comments send to Dear Thelma or if more "youthful" in nature send to Dear Big Bro..... which I am cos no understanding the word "paltry" lah!! Like does it mean 'pals' that are 'try'-ing to donate money ahhh???? Ha Ha Ha !! So funny lah...............
The shoes thing got me. I say GO before it's too late..

My wife's company has a new fully furnished 3-room apartment in an exclusive neighbourhood in KK that we can use for free. Date of departure remains unchanged at 20th October (leaving KK on Sunday, 23rd October). Subject to Ragu's confirmation of airline tickets, everything else is a GO!
Just to clarify i am not making arrangments for flights, better to have the individuals undertake their own...was offering to arrange hotel bookings...which seems to have been taken care off already...
PRPR
....of all the activities we have had till now as a group, this is the single most important thing that we have done.... It most certainly means something to us and matters to the kid..........
The rest is que sera sera....

I think there was some misunderstanding in what i said. The shoe thing i meant was referring to being in the shoes of the ones in need and GO was go ahead and contribute.
Anyway GO to M. Kinabalu is also a good thing, after some searching, MAS has a package for RM1,100 rounded up for 4 days 3 nights, fly in stay 1 night in KK, head for mountain next day stay the night at 1/2 way house, climb to peak the next day and return to KK the same night ... something like that i have to verify again. PRPR you see what happens whenm i'm "selected" to organise! You'll end up in the mountians the same way you were born ... hee ... hee. For those confirmed to go, is this budget OK? Wilson
Har Har Har... I'm in stiches over the KK communi-K-tion and still the bottle sauce kap has not come off. Need some K-y for the KK vac-K-tion?????????? Kar Kar Kar !!
Hey Shoe Man! Flight and Package bookings made and paid for, let's see your shoe and bottle of ketchup first. You eat after we come back.
